FOOD/HEALTH

Good Shepherd School's cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch five days a week. Parents who qualify(meaning their income falls below a specified level) are eligible to receive free and reduced price lunches. Mrs. Georgia Bulger is responsible for the overall operation of the cafeteria. Mrs. Bulger orders food from several different food distributors according to the federal and state guidelines. The meals are nutritionally balanced according to government standards. Two hot meals are offered along with an alternate meal. Different varieties of milk may also be purchased. Woodland Hills School District provides a registered nurse. Regular health screenings are performed to ensure the good health of our students. These include height, weight, vision, and dental check-ups. The nurse is on site one day a month, but is always available in case of an emergency.

GUIDANCE

A guidance counselor provides individual and classroom counseling sessions to the children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The children are referred by teachers, parents and principal. Parent permission is required for any counseling administered.

SPECIAL SERVICES

Good Shepherd provides a Student Assistance Program. The SAP program is mandated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by Act 211. The SAP Team consists of the principal, vice principal, and teachers who have been trained especially for prevention and intervention issues. The Allegheny Intermediate Unit provides a Title 1 teacher. The purpose of this service is to help students who are struggling with reading. A Speech and Language Clinician is also provided by The Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The services are available two days a week. Gifted services are provided by the local public school district one day a week. The students are bussed to the appointed location.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation for Good Shepherd School is provided for the children by their district as needed. Walkers and children that are picked up by their parents are monitored by teachers and a crossing guard. Field trip transportation is usually chartered for specific events. A van is available for small group trips.
