Where We Excel

Good Shepherd School offers a wide variety of academic approaches to learning with Religion as its focus. Through various kinesthetic activities, we are able integrate morals and values into our curriculum. Through the dedication of our faculty and staff we are able to instill in our students the desire to be lifelong learners with strong, spiritual, Christian values.

In cooperation with Heritage Community Initiatives, Good Shepherd is able to offer the 4 Kids Early Learning Preschool Center which accommodates three and four year olds for half and full day care.

Good Shepherd is fully accessible with ramps and an elevator for physically challenged students and staff.

Technology is a crucial aspect of modern society; therefore, we have equipped our facility with up-to-date hardware and software. We have a lab of 22-networked computers that are linked to the Internet by high-speed cable connection. Software covers every area of the curriculum. Classrooms have a minimum of three computers with one at each teacher's desk with internet access. A laptop computer and three projectors are available for use wherever necessary. There is also a TV/VCR/DVD in each room.

Our students participate fully in the spiritual life of the school community. They are involved as cantors, lectors, altar servers and ringers in the Bell Choirs.

Several programs afford the students the opportunity to use their talents. Throughout the year there are musical productions, art shows, and science fairs. Students have participated in a variety of special activities including Starbase Atlantis, (which is a 5 week program in mechanical and electrical engineering for our fifth graders), and the Diocesan Spelling Bee. The Carnegie Mellon Robotics Program and Future City Competitions have given Good Shepherd several awards.

Good Shepherd holds an annual Spelling Bee where community schools are invited to participate. Good Shepherd also participates in the Reading is Fundamental Program run by volunteers from our Ladies of Charity Parish group.

Good Shepherd participates in the Barnes and Noble "takeover" night. On this night, we get to showcase Good Shepherd School in a local Barnes and Noble and also get proceeds from the evening.

Good Shepherd uses the RVS Grading system where parents have continuous access to their child's school performance and progress. Through this program, parents are able to communicate with their child's teacher which is crucial to their success.
